ShiFt Happens: I almost didn’t write this.

This newsletter is going to be a little different.

Usually I write about something we’re all walking through. A shift, a patter, even a conversation we need to have.

But lately, the question hasn’t been about the topic. It’s been about me.

“Who are you, really?”

I keep hearing it. In DMs, after events, and inside conversations with women who’ve been around for a while. There’s curiosity there... and trust. And I don’t take that lightly.

So instead of giving you another lesson this week, I’m giving you context.

For years I gave the clean and professional answer. The version that fits neatly on a stage intro or website bio.

Retired Air Force. Doctorate. Coach. Speaker. Author.

All of that is true. It’s just not the whole story.

Who I am didn’t start with credentials. It started a lot earlier than that.

My sister remembers more of our childhood than I do. My mom shielded me from things she probably carried by herself. I learned to move forward. To achieve. To stay steady.

Somewhere in there, I became someone who could read a room quickly. Someone who knew how to manage emotion - mine and everyone else’s. At the time, it wasn’t a skill set. It was survival. Later, it became my work.

That’s the part I don’t usually get to talk about.

People see the confidence and the clarity. The way I can sit in hard conversations and not flinch. What they don’t see is where that muscle came from.

I wrote this blog because if I’m going to ask you to trust me - to let me speak into your marriage, your business, your fears, your growth - you should know who you’re listening to. Not just what I’ve accomplished, but what shaped me.

This isn’t marketing - it’s context.

It’s the real story behind the voice.

So if you’ve ever wondered who Dr. Renea Skelton actually is beyond the stage and the polished bio…

Here it is.

a community of women

If you’ve ever joined a group and quietly thought, “This isn’t for me,” you’re not alone. Most spaces promise connection and end up feeling loud, awkward, or like one more thing to manage. That’s why this exists. It’s a private community that lives off social media - so there’s no algorithm, no drama, and no pressure to post just to stay visible. It’s not a Facebook group. It’s not another place you have to keep up.And no one’s watching to see if you’re “engaged enough.” You don’t have to...

new year goals

This year was a good one. Not perfect, not easy. But good in ways that actually count. I reached a goal I’d been working toward - over 50 women inside my online women’s community. Conversations about real life, support, and women showing up as themselves - not who they think they should be. I said yes to more than 25 speaking engagements. Different rooms, different stories, same reminder every time - people want honesty more than hype. I became a Nea-Nea - that’s my grandma name. Still wild...

woman stressed during holiday

Let’s not pretend the holidays are all twinkle lights and warm feelings. For a lot of people - maybe you included - it’s more like this: You’re walking into a room where people have opinions about your life.Where someone is going to say something they shouldn’t… “as a joke.”Where the same old family dynamics show up like clockwork.Where you start shrinking before you even knock on the door. Nobody warns you about the emotional hangover that comes from being around people who think they know...
